Introduction

"Dark Cherry Quartet"

Colored Pencil on white Stonehenge paper, 8 x 8 inches

In this course, I'll walk through drawing this still life on Stonehenge paper and use the burnishing technique to depict smoothness.

Pencil pressure and layering are the keys to getting the look that we're going for!

We're using our colored pencils along with several erasers for all their worth. No solvent, no special powders or potions, just learning fundamentals of drawing and applying tried and true drawing skills.

We're drawing the smooth skin of a cherry, which is a highly reflected surface.

Here are the skills you can expect to learn:

  • Single color fade
  • Value scale
  • Layering and pencil pressure
  • Working with the tooth on Stonehenge paper
  • Grisaille method
  • Color mixing and color harmony
  • Burnishing
  • Composition
  • Correcting mistakes
  • Preserving reflections
  • Light pencil color over dark

I can't wait to get started on this drawing with you! Join me in the first video.
